HIKER DISCOVERS HUMAN REMAINS AT SANGRE DE CRISTO RANCHES

A hiker discovered human skeletal remains in the Sangre De Cristo Ranches subdivision of Costilla County, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said Thursday.

The grisly discovery was made near
Bruce Road on Tuesday. Costilla County is located along the New Mexico border. It is sparsely populated. The subdivision was developed by the late magazine publisher Malcolm Forbes in the 1970s.

"CBI Agents responded to the scene and met with the Sheriff's Office and the reporting party," according to a press release. "The RP showed the Agents where the remains were located, and the Agents determined the skeletal remains were human.

"The Colorado State Patrol secured the area overnight, and an extensive search was conducted the following day, involving members of the CBI, the 12th Judicial District Attorney's Office, the Costilla County Coroner and K9 teams."

The remains haven't been identified.
