SUSPICIOUS DEATH NEAR LUDLOW MASSACRE MEMORIAL

A body was discovered in an abandoned building near the Ludlow Massacre Memorial and the "circumstances surrounding the death appear to be suspicious," the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said Tuesday.

A visitor discovered the body at the site, which is 15 miles north of Trinidad, on May 17, and authorities identified deceased as James Hedges, 46, of Trinidad. The building is located near Country Road 44 and County Road 61.5.

The memorial honors 20 or so people - men, woman, and children - killed at the site in April 1914 during the Colorado Coalfield War between striking miners, the Colorado National Guard and company security forces in April 1914.

If you have information, contact the CBI or the Las Animas County Sheriff's Office (719) 846-2211, extension 7.
