WILDFIRE FORCES MASS EVACUATION OF TROUT FROM LEADVILLE HATCHERY

State and federal personnel evacuated hundreds of thousands cutthroat and rainbow trout from the Leadville National Fish Hatchery as a wildfire showered burning needles. "It was no easy feat," Colorado Parks and Wildlife reported. Some of the trout were released for angling during last month's emergency operation. "Most will remain in hatcheries to support future breeding and stocking efforts until it is safe to return them to Leadville," officials said. "It was no easy feat." [Photos: CPW]
