MAN INJURED IN BEAR ATTACK NEAR EAGLE-VAIL

A mother black bear attacked a man outside an apartment building near Eagle-Vail, Colorado Parks and Wildlife said.

The sow, who was accompanied by cubs, "swiped at the man, scratching his arm," officials said. "The victim tripped and injured his foot while trying to escape."

Rangers were unable to locate the trio following Monday's attack and a trap was placed in the neighborhood. An adult male bear may have been nearby.

"If a bear sees you, back away slowly," officials said. "Never run; running may trigger a chase response."
