Firefighters doused and raked a garbage truck's dumped, smelly, smoldering cargo on an Aurora street on a hot summer day.
The driver spotted flames on the vehicle’s video feed as it was making rounds in the 16500-block of East Brown Drive on Tuesday.
"Acting quickly, he positioned the truck in the middle of the residential street, away from homes, vehicles and vegetation, and dumped the burning contents onto the roadway," fire officials reported. "It took approximately 30 minutes to fully extinguish the burning pile." The cause is unknown. No one was hurt.
"Lithium-ion batteries - including those found in electronics, power tools and mobility devices - should never be placed in household trash," officials cautioned the public. "Aerosol cans, oils and flammable liquids can also create a serious fire hazard."
