Dogs dream too. Vets call it "sleep running" - a snoozing canine's recollection of the day's events, i.e. chasing a squirrel or rabbit or fetching a much-loved toy.
A dog’s size affects the number and length of its dreams. A toy poodle, for example, may dream every 10 minutes. A Labrador retriever may dream once every hour or so.
"Puppies, who have a lot of new information to process as they explore their new world every day, tend to dream more often than adult dogs," according to VCA Animal Hospitals.
"Dogs who are tuckered out from staying active may sleep more soundly and experience longer phases of REM sleep, giving them more time to dream," VCA reports.
Use caution rousing fido. "Many of the dog bites thar occur in children happen because the child wakes a sleeping dog," VCA cautions. "So always remember to let sleeping dogs lie ... and dream."
