POLICE SHOOT, KILL GUNMAN NEAR SCHOOL

UPDATE

Police killed a gunman during a foot chase near Kepner Beacon Middle School, Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas said early Tuesday.

The gunman "fired at the officers as he was fleeing the officers," the chief said. "The officers then opened fire."

Two Denver officers and a school safety officer were involved in the shooting, which occurred late Monday in the 900-block of South Hazel Court.

They were dispatched to the school to investigate a man and woman on the property. The woman left the area.
