BLAZING AIR CRASH KILLS 2, FLAMES THREATEN BUILDING; FEDS SEEK VIDEO

UPDATE

Two people died early Friday in the fiery crash of a small airplane in Douglas County.

The tragedy occurred at 8636 South Peoria Street, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said, south of Centennial Airport. No other casualties were reported. Firefighters "contained a fire that was threatening a structure and a large generator," South Metro Fire Rescue said.

"When we heard a loud boom, me and my coworkers came outside, we noticed a big ball of flames across them," a witness told Denver 7. "We thought it was a generator at first." The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

On social media, the sheriff's office said: "IF ANYONE HAS SURVEILLANCE VIDEO OR PICTURES OF THIS EVENT, we ask you to email eyewitness@ntsb.gov"

South Metro's airport crash trucks - RED 2 and SMFR Safety 2 - responded to the alarm. "RED 2 carries 1,500 gallons of water, 210 gallons of foam, and 500 gallons of Purple-K dry chemical agent," South Metro said. "Firefighters used approximately 750 gallons of water, flowing at 175 gallons per minute, to extinguish the fire. "This quick action prevented the flames from spreading to a nearby building and multiple diesel-powered generators."
