The quake, which occurred at 6:29 a.m., measured 3.0 and was centered about 2 miles south-southwest of the city, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
There are about 90 "potentially active faults" across the state, according to the Colorado Geological Survey.
Earlier this month, a mild earthquake rattled Trinidad. The 4.0 trembler struck south of the Colorado-New Mexico border on May 7, officials said.
The largest recorded quake in state history struck north-central Colorado on Nov. 7, 1882, and shook Denver, 60 miles from the epicenter.
