DENVER AIMS TO KICK BIG TOBACCO'S BUTTS

Denver is suing major tobacco companies over the environmental impact of discarded cigarette butts, the Denver Gazette reports.

The city's lawsuit contends
taxpayers should not bear the responsibility of paying for repairs to city-owned property, such as sewers and other infrastructure, caused by the debris, according to the newspaper.

Denver Mayor Mike Johnston told the Gazette: “The tobacco industry has known for decades that cigarettes pollute streets and clog drains ... If common decency won’t compel them to do so, then maybe a court order will.”
