Denver's Office of Emergency Management cautions travelers that "road trips are great—until your tire pops in the mountains with no service." Plan carefully. Let someone know your route and estimated time of arrival before departing. Pack provisions, such as a first aid kit, flashlight and batteries, bottled water and snacks, jumper cables, a cell phone charger and blankets for chilly mountain nights. And make sure your spare tire and jack are good to go.
