YOUTH, 9, RESCUES SISTER DROWNING IN MEAD POOL

The Mead Police Department presented Lani Schaad, 9, with a Life Saving Award for rescuing his little sister, Kaylin, who was drowning in a pool.

"Lani demonstrated extraordinary courage, quick thinking, and selflessness in an unimaginable situation," Officer Cooper Cramblet said. "He saw his little sister needed help and acted immediately."

The incident occurred June 30 in the Margil neighborhood.

"Lani saw his younger sister submerged in the pool and immediately dove in to pull her to safety," police said. "The family estimated Kaylin had been underwater for approximately 20 to 30 seconds before Lani brought her back to the surface.

"The family reported that Kaylin appeared discolored when she was removed from the water," police said. "Emergency responders treated Kaylin at the scene, and she was transported to a local hospital for further medical care."
